I know of 2 and a 3rd one was an attempt. The only details I know is the brother who attempted the suicide was upset that his hours for the feild ministry were low due to advanced age. These people in New York (GB) really, really piss me off for what they do to people. "Happiest people on earth" is pure Watchtower BS....

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

They steal time, energy, and money in the name of God. When one prediction fails, new light shows up just in time it keep it all going. No apologies for mistakes. It is no wonder that the witnesses are so hard headed, they have good teachers(FDS).

Has being a Witness caused clinical Depression with any of you?
by Singing Man infor me i would say that half the reason i am depressed is directly cause from being raised a witness, i am 50 now.

Depression can be caused by many factors. If a person has suffered for more than two weeks they should seek professional help (not the elders, because they are not professionals, and can do much harm)
For me personally, being a Witness did add to my bouts of depression. Before being a dub, no depression, during 3 bouts in 19 years, out of the dubs feeling much better.
I can not say if in those 19 years of being a dub, I wouldn't have had a bout of depression, but I will say the help these people give for depression is ZERO. Linking depression to what a person can or can not do for God(the borg.), is criminal. Their head is up their ass on this one, they have no training whatsoever to deal with depression and should direct people to those with training in the matter. I can not think of anything worse that these people can do than to dissfellowship a depressed person and cut them off from their families.
There is one thing worse, hide child abuse to keep the organization looking good

Personal Goals......
by flower infound this linked from one of the jw sites.
is'nt it interesting how things like reading the actual bible and becoming a more loving husband are all the way at the bottom.
i guess they arent as important as cleaning the hall or sending them money and not nearly as important as going to meetings and reading their books so the indoctrinization can begin.

The first 42 are all good reasons never to go back. Thanks for reminding me of what I used to be enslaved to.

The Revolving Door; Does Nobody Notice?
by shamus inthink about a typical dub.. you get brought into the truth.
the person that brought you into the truth brings in, say, 2 people.
yourself and another... 1 person stays, the other leaves.

People leave 1 or 2 at time. Out of sight out of mind. It's not until years go by until you realize how many people have left. I can not remember the last time someone from the outside got baptized. All JW kids. The kingdom halls in my area are all experiencing a decline. On the tail end of being an elder, the CO's and DO's felt that the rank and file in New England, USA, were being distracted by recreation. What would your family want to do on a Sunday, go snow skiing, go to the beach, or go to the watchtower study?

What scams did you use for counting your time?
by Ivor Hope in.
flowerpetals post and thread reminded me of some of the scams we would use to try to show the maximum numbers of hours spent in "service" for the smallest amount of effort.
here's some of the ones i remember...just wondered if any of you had any other memories.. .

I used to pick up a return visit and go to the coffee shop and run errands with him. Worth at least 2-3 hours a pop.

My ex-wife (still a good dub) stole my car and money for business taxes and the local body of elders did zero about it. That was the last straw, but my discontentment for the borg had started years before that.
